Q1. What are the system requirements for LoanMagic?
A1.

Because of the new technology utilized by LoanMagic, the application uses more memory than traditional software applications. On average, LoanMagic requires a PC with at least a Pentium II processor with 128 MB (256 MB recommended) of RAM and 100 MB of hard disk space.

Q2. Do I ever need to upgrade LoanMagic?
A2.

No. LoanMagic incorporates a technology, Java Web Start, which automatically checks the LoanMagic server for new application files. If present, all new files are automatically downloaded and the system is updated.

Q3. Is LoanMagic a web based application?
A3.

No. LoanMagic is a stand-alone application that utilizes the Internet and Web for certain tasks (credit, updates, etc). However, all data is automatically synchronized with the LoanMagic server. This enables the user to use LoanMagic in a fully disconnected manner (ie, realtors office, borrowers home, etc).

Q4. What is synchronization?
A4.

LoanMagic automatically synchronizes all user data (Contacts, Leads, etc) and calendar to the LoanMagic server. This enables the user to have multiple copies of LoanMagic (office, home, laptop) and the data is automatically synchronized between the copies. It also functions as a data backup.

Q5. What will I be charged for using LoanMagic?
A5.

To view the subscription fee associated with LoanMagic, click here. This fee includes software updates and free, unlimited training. There are no contracts and the subscription may be canceled at any time.

Your monthly subscription entitles you to install LoanMagic on an unlimited number of PCs. Your LoanMagic data is synchronized between each computer. LoanMagic can be downloaded and installed here.

Q7. What can I do if LoanMagic will not install or connect?
A7.

Disable any anti-virus and internet security software that may be running on your computer and install LoanMagic again. Programs such as Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm and Windows Firewall may interfere with LoanMagic setup and installation if not properly configured.

Q10. How does LoanMagic utilize the National Do-Not-Call list?
A10.

When contact data is synchronized with the LoanMagic server, all phone numbers are instantly cross-referenced with the most current National Do-Not-Call list. Contacts whose phone numbers exist in the National Do-Not-Call list are displayed in red, once the contact is opened.

Q11. My LoanMagic desktop icons no longer function. What should I do?
A11.
  1. Remove all LoanMagic icons from your desktop.
  2. Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click the Java icon.
  3. In the Java Control Panel tab titled 'General,' click the Delete Files... button located beneath 'Temporary Internet Files.'
  4. Check all options, in the Temporary Internet Files dialog window, and click OK.
  5. Click here to launch LoanMagic.
  6. Once the application starts, LoanMagic will automatically place a shortcut on your desktop or prompt you to add a new one.

Q13. Can I import my existing data from Mortgage Coach®?
A13. Yes. Using the Data Exchange Wizard you can quickly import your existing Mortgage Coach database®. LoanMagic will read all of your data directly from the Mortgage Coach® Microsoft Access Database on your computer and create a contact for each record read.

Q14. Can I import my existing data from Calyx Point?
A14.

Yes. LoanMagic can import your Calyx Point data. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. From the LoanMagic menu, select Import And Export... -> Import From Loan Origination System and click Next.
  2. Select Calyx Point and click Next.
  3. Select all the files that you wish to import into LoanMagic and click Import.

Q15. Can I export my data from LoanMagic into Calyx Point?
A15.

Yes. LoanMagic can export your data from LoanMagic directly into Calyx Point. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. From the LoanMagic menu, select the Import And Export... -> Export to Loan Origination System and click Next.
  2. Select Calyx Point and click Next.
  3. Select the file that you wish to export into Calyx Point and click Export.

Q16. Can I import data saved in an Excel file?
A16.

Yes. Using the Data Exchange Wizard you can quickly import your Excel file. LoanMagic will import each row in the Excel file as long as the first row has valid column names (see table below) and the data is in the proper format. For example, a column name of Name or Contact could be used to represent the borrower/contact's name.

Q17. Can I import my existing data from ACT!? What about the LoanToolBox ACT! template?
A17. Yes. LoanMagic can import your ACT! data using the ACT! export to excel feature. Once exported to an excel file, use the Data Exchange Wizard to import the excel file.

  1. While in ACT, switch to Contact List View (View -> Contact List menu)
  2. Select the Tools -> Export to Excel menu. Excel will open with the contacts in the list in the new excel file.**
  3. This excel file can then be saved and imported into LoanMagic using the Data Exchange Wizard.
**Only the columns listed in this table will be exported. If you want more items to be exported, select the Options -> Customize Columns buttons and add the additional columns you want exported.

Regarding the LoanToolBox template, LoanMagic will import everything as defined in the table in the previous question Can I import data saved in an Excel file? highlighted in blue. Be sure to add the columns you want exported to the contact list view.

Note: It is recommended that you first import a few records and verify those records were correctly imported into LoanMagic. Once you verify all contact, property, and loan data (if applicable) is correctly imported into LoanMagic you can then import the remainder of your records.

Q18. What information comes over when I import a contact from Outlook?
A18.

The following fields are imported: Name, Birthdate, Anniversary, Home Address, Work Phone, Home Phone, Fax Phone, Home Fax, Web Site, Email Addresses, Company Name, Cell/Mobile Phone, and Categories. The Instant Message and Body are not imported as they are not available in older versions of Outlook.

Q19. What types of comparison scenarios can I show a borrower with LoanMagic?
A19.

LoanMagic will illustrate any type of loan scenario in today's mortgage industry, including fixed, ARM, interest only, HELOC, Neg Am, piggy-backs and more. An unlimited number of scenarios may be prepared and all reports can be instantly emailed to borrowers.

Q20. How can I optimize the printing of comparison reports in LoanMagic?
A20.

Because the reports in LoanMagic are highly customizable, the application cannot place proper page breaks into the documents that are to be printed. If you are preparing a very comprehensive report that contains a lot of data, it is recommended that you print to legal-size paper. In most cases, a complete report will fit onto a single sheet of legal-size paper.

Q21. Does LoanMagic include taxes in the calculations?
A21.

Yes. LoanMagic uses the borrower's marginal tax rate and standard deduction when computing the cost of the loan. If investments are utilized, LoanMagic does take into consideration whether or not the investments have yet to be taxed (ie, savings accounts, mutual funds, etc).

Q22. How does LoanMagic calculate ARM programs used in comparisons?
A22.

LoanMagic computes the amortization table for an ARM (the underlying data used in the comparison reports) based on all parameters (ie, Index, Margin, Caps, etc). In addition, LoanMagic can 'project' the index over time to better simulate the ARM behavior in a raising rate market. This powerful tool may be used to illustrate to a borrower how an ARM is favorable, based on historical data for the respective index or the particular index rate, per adjustment, at which an index climbs.

Q23. Can the results of applying savings towards principal or an investment be illustrated?
A23.

Yes. LoanMagic can illustrate anything that your borrower would ever want to know regarding extra payments and investment (ie, 401k, mutual funds, etc) analysis. There is no other software available as accurate as LoanMagic.

Q24. How do I show broker paid contributions?
A24.

On the Impounds/Mortgage Insurance tab for a proposal, select "Broker Paid" from the dropdown box under Seller Contribution. Then enter the fixed amount and/or % for contribution. The system will automatically apply this to the cash from/to borrower.

If you want to show your entire yield spread premium towards the borrower's closing costs, add a Premium of type "Yield Spread Premium". LoanMagic will automatically apply the entire "Yield Spread Premium" to the cash from/to borrower.

Q25. How do I email comparison reports?
A25.
  1. While viewing a report, click the Email Report button on the toolbar.
  2. When prompted, fill in the delivery details (To, Subject, Message, etc).
  3. Press Send.

Q26. Can I adjust the font size that is used when creating reports?
A26.

Yes, you may adjust the point size of the font used on reports you create. To adjust the size, within LoanMagic open the Edit Menu, choose Options and click on the Worksheet tab. Enter the font size that you prefer in the '... point font for reports' field located in the second column of the Worksheet options. Recommended point sizes are 7, 8 or 9.

Q27. How do I create a Marketing Campaign?
A27.

You may use the Marketing Campaign templates LoanMagic provides or create a completely new campaign by clicking on the New button in the top left corner of the main screen.

Q28. Who can I target for my marketing campaign?
A28.

You can market to anyone in your LoanMagic database, this includes your borrower contacts, business partners, closed or pending loans and leads. In the campaign Details screen, just select which recipients you want to include in your campaign. You can further define which specific recipients you want to target with this campaign by using the Filter criteria on the right side of the Details screen.

Q29. Can I set up various actions within a campaign?
A29.

You can set up several actions within one campaign. Actions can be a variety of letters, emails or calendar events (phone call).

Q30. How does LoanMagic know to send which action to what recipients in a campaign with multiple actions?
A30.

The campaign will automatically pick up the new recipients you have just entered into LoanMagic based on the recipient criteria you set up originally in the campaign. The recipient, will then start at Action 1 and go through all the actions from beginning to end within that campaign schedule. The first action will start when the next round of actions trigger you, by a calendar event reminder, to run them based on how the campaign schedule was originally set up. Once a recipient (lead, closed loan, contact, business partner, etc.) has run through the first action, the system will ask you if you want to move those recipients to the next action to be included in the next scheduled action run.

Q31. How do I schedule when my campaign actions should run?
A31.

In the Details screen of the campaign, enter in a Start Date and then click on Frequency to choose how often you want the recurring calendar events to remind you when a campaign action should run.

In addition, within most of the Action screens you have the ability to set a specific time period between actions. At the top right corner of the Action screen you will see Run this action 1 week after the previous action. The fields will allow you to set the number of days, weeks, months or years between actions.

Q32. Will the campaign run the actions automatically?
A32.

No, the campaign will trigger calendar event reminders that ask you if you want to run the campaign action now. This gives you full control on what is being sent out to the recipients, allowing you to review and edit, if necessary, the actions that are scheduled to run.

Q33. How can I lock a campaign so recipients or filters can not be changed?
A33.

Within a marketing campaign, at the bottom of the Details screen there is a button with a lock on it. This is used to lock the campaign from changes being made to it and prevent recipients from being added or deleted from the campaign. You will know it is locked because the Recipients and Filters are grayed out and can not be accessed.

Q34. Can I have multiple campaigns running at the same time with some of the same recipients in more than one campaign?
A34.

Yes. You can have multiple campaigns running at the same time with recipients in different stages of those campaigns and if you have chosen an overlapping recipient filter criteria, then the campaigns can easily pick up on the same recipients.

Q35. How do I exclude a client from all of my marketing distribution lists, if a client or lead asks to 'Opt Out' from being included in my marketing campaigns?
A35.

Go to the Contact or Lead record Details screen and (on the right side under Reminder/Marketing) uncheck the box next to Include in Campaigns. This will exclude the contact or lead from being included in any campaign distribution list.

Q37. How do I configure Microsoft Word to work with the Home Asset Plan?

  1. Start Microsoft Word.
  2. Select Tools -> Macro -> Macros or press Alt+F8.
  3. In the Macros dialog window, name the macro "HomeAssetPlan".
  4. Select "Normal.dot (global template)" from the Macros in: dropdown.
  5. Press Create.
  6. The macro will open in the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor. In the panel that displays the code "Sub HomeAssetPlan()...", select all the code that exists there and delete it.
  7. Replace the code just deleted with the following (highlight red code below, select edit >- copy, then within Word edit >- paste):
